What is BWRT®?
BWRT® stands for ‘Brainworking Recursive Therapy®, a model of psychology and psychotherapy created by UK professional therapist Terence Watts, MCGI.
Unlike many other modern therapies, it allows a ‘core of privacy’ so that you do not have to divulge anything you would rather not talk about. In fact, the practitioner only needs to know how you feel and how you would prefer to feel instead.
BWRT® is a completely new and different therapy based on the latest discoveries about the way the brain works and how it affects our moods, behaviour and emotions. Only certified practitioners have been trained to deliver BWRT® and all have to adhere to a strict ethical code.

How BWRT® Works
Unlike traditional therapies, BWRT® doesn’t require you to revisit or relive painful past experiences. You only need to share the broad subject you want to work on — for example:
- Social anxiety
- Procrastination
- Fear of flying
- Low self-esteem
From there, BWRT® uses neuroscience to change the way your brain responds to triggers. Instead of automatically following old patterns, your brain learns a new, healthier response.
The Brain’s “Pattern-Matching” System
The oldest part of your brain — through which all external stimuli initially travels — is designed to protect you for survival.
Every time you encounter a situation, your brain quickly “pattern-matches” it against past experiences. If anything feels even slightly similar to a previous challenge or fear, your brain reacts instantly, firing neurons towards an outcome before you’ve even had a chance to consciously think about it.
This is why so many unwanted habits, fears, and emotional responses feel automatic — because they are.
In the Words of Terence Watts
Many ‘symptoms’ are the result of a behaviour or thought pattern ‘firing up’ that has been activated before. It might actually have been suitable or effective at one time but the fact that it isn’t now is of no consequence to the non-reasoning part of the brain. BWRT®makes it possible, via a simple technique, to create a new response pattern to any stimulus so that the action the brain triggers is one that we want.”
